 Basic Fashion Tips

Brazilians are very fashion conscious.

Check fashion magazines if you need a little advice.

You don’t need to break the bank by buying designer fashions you can’t afford, but don’t leave the house in sweatpants and t-shirts.

You will be able to find nice clothes at reasonable prices in many stores across the country.

You can wear jeans, but they are worn with belts and usually ironed.

Americans tend to dress more casual for work, so make sure you are dressed for success when heading into the office in Brazil.

 Clothing in Brazil for Women

When you are moving to Brazil, have IntlMOVE ship all of your fashionable clothing.

If you are a women, try not to wear polyester and try to follow European styles of dress.

Linen is a fabulous fabric for the tropical weather of Brazil, but it also wrinkles, so try to avoid wearing clothes made with it.

Showing your cleavage is acceptable as long as it is tasteful, but not at the office.

Brazil is a tropical country, so women will wear bright colors!

However, try not to wear green and yellow together because you will match the Brazilian flag, so you might look a little ridiculous.

Women should wear business suits or dresses with jackets when heading into the office.

It is totally acceptable for hemlines to be worn above the knees, even to the office.

Just make sure you look professional.

Dark colors are usually better for office wear.

Black pants, tweeds and light-colored shirts are classic styles that are always acceptable.

You can wear suits, cardigans over dresses and simple straight dresses.

Never wear too much make-up, piercings or jeans.

Women often wear fashionable sandals to work, but wear closed-toed shoes your first couple days until you see that open-toed shoes are appropriate.

You can ask other women in the office for advice and they will be happy to help!

When you take a purse with you, try to get a good quality purse that zips up.

When you live in big cities, purses with zippers will dissuade pick pockets from targeting you.

Women do not carry backpacks, so if you need something a little bigger try to look for a high-quality tote.

Clothing in Brazil for Men

For work functions, you will want to invest in the best suit that fits within your budget.

Just like women, men are very fashion conscious in Brazil.

Never wear a tie with a short-sleeved shirt, socks with sandals and you can also get rid of all of your white socks.

Brazil has a tropical climate, so you can also forgo wearing undershirts.

Try not to wear plaids or any other strange color combinations.

Brazil is your new home, so you will not want to dress like a tourist!

As mentioned earlier, jeans are always ironed and worn with a belt.

On your first day at the office, dress more formally.

You can see what other men are wearing in the office, or ask the receptionist for advice.

It is always best to dress more formally than to come to work too casual on your first day.

  2. When you move to Brazil, make sure that IntlMOVE ships all of your fashionable clothes with your household goods. People in Brazil often view the American style of dress as sloppy. You always have to look our best. I used to run to the grocery store in sweat pants, but i wouldn’t dream of doing that here.
